Flexible Working Tips

Are you new to flexible working? Or do you want to get the most out of your flexible working routine?

At Parent and Professional, we specialise in HR and how to support employees through all scenarios. One of which is flexible working.

Today, we’re sharing our top flexible working tips that could be useful for yourself or something to pass on to your employees.

8 Flexible Working Tips

1 – Every day, identify your top 3 ‘must do’s’ for the next day, then, in the morning do them first.  Make sure you don’t have more than 3. It’s not about creating a demotivating ‘to-do’ list, it’s about forcing you to prioritise.

2 – Don’t obsess about the detail; perfection doesn’t always exist.

3 – If you have days away from the office – use them wisely.  Think about why you have chosen to work flexibly. If you’ve made the arrangements to spend more time with your family, make sure you do that!

4 – Work hard on your visibility and presence. If you have office days, make more effort to see the people you need to see face to face when you’re there.

5 – Stay connected. Keep on top of emails and return voicemails promptly – this lets people know you’re still 100% available when you’re working away from the office.

6 – Revise your objectives with your manager to fit any new working pattern; set a trial period and keep reviewing your progress, agreeing changes to workload when appropriate

7 – Find a positive, happy role model, buddy, coach or friend.  Meet regularly to give each other a boost, especially when you are having a bad day

8 – Feeling guilty is a waste of energy.  Remind yourself of the benefits of working to you and your family, then let it go
