'Going back to the workplace after maternity leave was considered by far the most difficult period in a woman's career'
Muika Leadership & Odgers Berndtson

Our Maternity Coaching Programme consists of 3 workshops:

Workshop 1 'Pregnancy at work' - held at any point during pregnancy.
To provide pregnant employees with confidence through change, a supportive network and practical ways to prepare for their temporary exit from the business

Workshop 2 'Maternity Leave' - held during the latter part of maternity leave.
To encourage new mothers to reconnect with work and colleagues in a safe, supportive environment and to begin to plan their return

Workshop 3 - 'Working Parents' - held during first 12 weeks back at work.
To support those employees who have recently returned from maternity leave to be able to confidently and quickly reintegrate into the workplace

Business benefits

  • Supporting new and existing parents through the life event of having a family can boost return and retention rates.
  • Enhancing the company's reputation as being a flexible, family-friendly employer, will attract new talent to the workplace.
  • Many companies are revamping their family-support packages to strengthen their competitive advantage.
Case Study
Working in conjunction with the global diversity team, we designed and launched Barclays' first ever maternity coaching programme. Across the UK and the islands, we coached more than 50 ladies over an 18 month period and conducted an evaluation exercise which yielded the following results:- Our overall workshop evaluation was 93%. In addition, Return rates (of women returning from mat leave) increased by 4%
- Retention rates (of women staying after mat leave) increased by 15%
- 25% of the ladies we spoke to voluntarily said that they would not have returned to work following maternity if they hadn't attended our workshops

'I will make others aware that my employer offers this support to pregnant women'

'I found the workshop really useful and appreciated the opportunity to speak to people in a similar situation. Consistent with your experience, there seems to be a wealth of information available about the physical side of things, but it all appears to assume the person has no job at all! It is very refreshing and helpful to be able to speak to others managing this period alongside a career'

'I feel supported and valued by my employer now and as a result it has made me return to work following maternity leave. I did consider not returning at all'

'I feel more confident about returning to work and know how to be more productive'

'The most useful part of the workshop was discussions around how to meet the expectations of my employer, as well as the check-list of what to do and when!'

Participants from our Maternity Coaching Workshops

One to one coaching offers a much deeper exploration of personal issues surrounding the experience of maternity at work, and enables individuals to confidently express and then work through the deeper issues and barriers.

Coaching can be offered to employees at any level and at any stage of maternity. Each session is tailored entirely to the individual's needs at that time, and the pace and content is therefore very driven by them. The investment means that coachees are more likely to stay at the company for longer, whilst performing better over the longer term.

We have a number of coaches available for one to one coaching, please contact us for profiles.

'Having just returned from maternity leave, to the same senior position, part time, my confidence was low and I was doubting my ability to manage the demands of being a working parent. My Parenting for Professionals' maternity coaching was extremely beneficial to me. Helen quickly gained my trust and I felt really comfortable working with her.
It was invaluable to have the opportunity to talk through my experience and challenges, with a sympathetic listener who was able to suggest practical and helpful strategies. As a result my confidence has improved dramatically, and I am feeling enthused and excited about work again!'
